Pudamiduthal - The process of purifying by refining.
Pudamiduthal is important in the preparation of Rasamani, Alchemy and medicines.
The thing that has to be refined should not be exposed to fire directly. It can be kept inside any other thing or the seelai mud and should be dried. Around it the dried dung should be arranged and burnt. This process is called as pudamiduthal.
By following this procedure of using the dried dung, the things kept inside does not gets burnt off into ashes, with moderate temperature it gets formed in a stronger and special way.
Based on the requirement the Siththars have used different types of methods. Each of this method has been described based on the number of dried dungs used.
"வில்லுகிறேன் புடப் பாகம் செப்பக் கேளாய்

I shall now explain about the number of dried dungs that have to be used. Kaadaip pudam means one dried dung, Koudharip pudam means 3, Sevar (cuckoo) pudam means 10, Varaagap pudam means 50, Kejap pudam means 1000, manal maraivup pudam means 90 dried cow dungs and in boomip pudam, goat's excretory has to be put for 4" to make the pudam.
If we know these basics it can be easy to understand about which type of pudam the Siththars are talking.
In the next post we shall meet with other information.
