Rudraksha and Siththars

Author: தோழி / Labels: , ,

The rudrakshas have always been a symbol of the Siththars. Even now we identify  Siththar images with this rudrakshas only. We have found much information about the rudrakshas in the songs of the Siththars. If I should share all those informations here it will take another two weeks to share all of them. Hence I wish to share the songs of Agathiyar and Thirumoolar only.

Thirumoolar narrates the greatness of the rudrakshas in the following song. Let us know the greatness of the rudraksha by the following song.

"பூதி யணிவது சாதன மாதியிற்
poothi yanivathu saathana maathiyir
kaathani thaambira kundalang kandikai
oathi yavarkkum uruththira saathanan
theethil sivayogi saathanan thaeril"

(Thirumoolar)

"காதணி குண்டலம் கண்டிகை நாதமுன்
kaathani kundalam kandikai naathamun
oothunar sangam uyarkatti kapparai
oathumil paathukam yogantha aathanam
aethumil yogapat tamthandam eerainthae"

(Thirumoolar)

Agathiyar has also shared so much information about the rudraksha in his songs. Like wise in this post we are going to see one of the rarest information. We might have noticed that the people who have spiritual beliefs and those who are interested in god wear the rudraksha gosary.  Agathiyar says about the  rudraksha sizes and their desired formats to his disciples. The following is the song:

"துதிக்கவென்றால் புலத்தியனே இன்னங்கூர்வேன்
thuthikkavenraal Pulathiyanae innangkoorvaen
thuppuravaai sepamaalai poonangkaalam

(Agathiyar)

"கேளப்பா புலத்தியனே யின்னங்கூர்வேன்

- அகத்தியர் (Agathiyar)

"அட்டமாம் ருத்திராட்ச முழங்கைமேலே

sattamuda nasuviniyar sonnaneethi
sadaadsaranae yunthamakku saatrinaenae"

(Agathiyar)

He says that he learnt the information from  Aswini devar  about the  rudraksha that should be worn while chanting mantra . All these rudrakshas shoud be six faced. The rosary tied with 32 rudrakshas has to be worn to the plaited hair, the rosary tied with 51 rudrakshas has to be worn around the neck, the rosary tied with 12 rudrakshas has to be worn to wrist and the garland with 16 rudrakshas has to be worn on the part above the elbow.

Next time when you notice a saint or Saivite monk, just  notice if they are wearing rudraksha as told by Agathiyar.

In the next post we shall see about the medicinal values of the rudrakshas.

Rudraksha – Few rare informations

Author: தோழி / Labels:

The rudraksha is used for three kinds of purposes like wearing on the body, chanting rosary while doing some pooja or chanting mantra and also to put as an ornament on the statue of god. This rosary have to be made by using the identical rudrakshas. In most of the rudrakshas we can find the hole at the centre naturally. Hole is made only if they are not present naturally. This information might not be known to most of them.

People buy the certain kind of rudrakshas only by knowing their importance. Hence those are sold out for more prices also. Making use of this opportunity, some sellers make the fake rudrakshas that look identical to the real ones. These are mostly made out of plastic or sealing wax. We could not find the differences between the real and fake ones. Hence we need to be careful while buying the rudraksha.

There are certain easy ways to identify the real rudraksha. If we keep the rudraksha between two copper coins, then it will rotate.  Also if we drop the single faced rudraksha in flowing water, it will run in the opposite direction. All the rudraksha except the four faced one will float in the water. Apart from this there are many other methods too.

Each one of the rudraksha has its own unique energy layer. Because of this only it has been told that the rudraksha should not touch each other. To separate them from each other we should tie a knot in between them. There are three kinds of knots in usage. We should observe them and buy.

These knots are called as Naagapaasam, Savithri, Brahmakiranthi. Based on the need of the rosary, the type of the knot varies. After putting all these together the ends of the rosary has to be tied. And at that point another rudraksha is tied. It is called as “Naayaga mani” or “Meru mani”.

While chanting the mantras using these rosary, the mantras get additional power. It has to be kept straight to the navel during the mornings, it has to be kept straight to the chest in the afternoon and it has to be kept straight to the nose in the evening times and chanted. Only by doing this, we can attain the results. Keeping the rudraksha rosary in hand and by chanting mantra at the mountain peaks, shore of the rivers, forests, caves, and near the samadhis of saints or Siththars, we will get the better effects. This rudraksha rosary can be worn by everyone.

In the next post we shall see about the details about the information that the Siththars have told about the rudrakshas.

Rudraksha – Size and types

Author: தோழி / Labels:

The seeds of the rudraksha tree is taken, washed and dried. Based on their sixes they are categorized for various uses. The size varies based on the temperature, type of tree, age of the tree and the growth of the fruit. Generally the seeds would be in pale black or reddish pale brown.

The outer surface of the rudraksha is uneven but has got strong ups and downs. If we notice them deeply we can find that there would be a line travelling from the top to the bottom. That slit is recognized as the face. Based on the age and growth of these rudraksha, the slits occur. We can find rudrakshas varying from 1 to 21 faces. 95% of the rudrakshas would be possessing 5 to 6 faces only.

The weight of this rudraksha depends based on the depth and the distance between the faces. If the face is closer it would be heavier and if the faces are located far from each other then they would be light weight. This kind of light weighted pearls will float in the water.

A very rare kind of the rudraksha would have two faces attached to each other and would contain no faces on them. This kind of pearls is called as “Gowri Sankar”. The pearls with only face would look like an incompletely grown one. The rudraksha with one, two and three faces would be the most rarest and most powerful kind of rudraksha.

Based on the size of the rudraksha, they are categorized into three. They are gooseberry sized rudraksha, jujube sized pearl and peanut sized pearls. The gooseberry sized rudraksha gives the complete effects, the jujube sized rudraksha causes medium level of effects and the peanut sized pearls gives low level of effects.

Generally these are tied up like a rosary and used. Either thread or metal strips is used to join the rudrakshas. There are various methods to tie up these garlands. These garlands are made with four different counts of the rudrakshas like 1, 27, 54, and 108. While tying them into garlands we should make it a point that all the rudhrakshas contain similar kind of faces. But those who make the garlands for commercial purposes do not note all these points.

While tying them as a garland rudrakshas should not touch to each other.

We shall see about the reason behind this in the next post.

Rudraksha – An introduction

Author: தோழி / Labels:

Just think what are all the things that come to your mind on the moment you think about the rudraksha. It will definitely be renunciation, sages, saints, simplicity, rosary, spiritualism, health, medicine and sorceries etc.

Ruthiraaksham, uruthiarakkam are the various names that the rudraksha has got. We have heard various opinions and beliefs about them. In the puranas*, there are so many exaggerated informations narrating the greatness of the rudraksha. Apart from all those informantions I am going to share certain rare information about the rudraksha and the information told by the Siththars in their songs.

In the northern language the word rudraksha refers to the “eyes of the rudhran”. Rudhran referes to lord Siva. This rudraksha is a seed that is obtained from a fruit of a tree named “ganitrus”. This tree is seen only in certain parts of the world. This tree is found in foot of Himalayan Mountains, valley of the Ganges, Australia and Malaysia. It is said that there are 90 varieties of this species. Out of them 25 varieties are found in countries like India and Nepal.

This tree can grow upto 80 feet height. In Tamilnadu, we can find them in certain regions like palani and nilgiri. In kerala in the parts of thiruvangoor and in Karnataka we can find in the regions of Mysore. The fruits of this tree will be in blue mixed with blackish color or dark blue color with hard shell. The six inch leaves of this tree resembles like that of the leaves of the vaadha tree. If the fully grown leaves shed off then at that place flowers bloom. The flowers of this tree would be in white color.

Though the outer shell of the fruit is very hard to see, the inner part is filled up with the juice of sour taste. The seed that is present at the center of this fruits called as rudraksha. The rudraksha that is found in the Nepal is considered as the best one in the quality. The main market for these rudraksha is the city of Kaasi (Varanasi) present in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Naturally the rudraksha will be in a violet and black mixed brownish kind of color. Mostly the rudraksha that we find in the shops will be artificially added up with colors. That is the reason they look so bright. Also we can find the fake rudraksha that are made out of lac and plastic. I shall share the details about identifying the fake ones also at the end of this series about the rudraksha.

In the next post we shall see the details about the types and other details about the rudraksha.

Trick that helps in being blessed with a kid

Author: தோழி / Labels: ,

In our society, it is a practice to give birth to a child after marriage within a span of time. The couple who do not have kids after a span of time will be noticed by the people and they will start talking bad about them. They will be put into stress either directly or indirectly. The modern science has come up with so many best ways to resolve this but the Siththars have also told the way of resolving this issue ages ago only.

"அட்சரமாஞ் சிகாரமுதல் சகலபூவாம்
atcharamaanj sikaaramuthal sakalapoovaam
sirappunnae yirunthuthaan varunanmoolai
nisamaana thaamaraiyin manithaanaaval
nilaiyaana palakaiyathu neelavasthram
thalaiyaana varuvainthu noorupoadu
sagalapilli sooniyangal theriththuppoakum
malaiyaathae perumpaadu mudanaetheerum
mangaiyarkku mathalaiyundaa malangidaathae”.

(Agathiyar)

Take the plank of the jaumoon - plum tree and write “Sivaayanama” mantra on it. On that plank place the lotus pearls and a flower. Wear blue coloured attire. Sit facing west direction and place the plank in front of you. Chant the “Sivaayanama” mantra and drop a flower each time on to the plank for 500 times.

With this all the bad spirits will leave the woman and will be blessed with a kid, says Agathiyar. Those who want can try to do this.

Agathiyar’s trick that drive the devils away

Author: தோழி / Labels: ,

Did the egg come from hen or hen come from egg? Like this, the answerless question about the devils, ghosts or bad spirits can also be never answered. But as far as my opinion, this topic is always dependent on the belief of an individual. Also any idea that cause harm to an individual is also a bad spirit.

The Siththars have mentioned about these devils and bad spirits in their songs. Agathiyar has also specified about the nature of the devils in his songs.

"கட்டடா பேயினது முறையைக்கேளு
kattadaa paeyinathu muraiyaikkaelu
kaanukira kunangaanum karuththil solvaen
ishtamudan penkalaiyaan roobamaakkum
minithaana aanaanaal moakiniyaik kaattum
nattiravil saaipithatrum karuvazikkum
nulirsurangal perumpaadu nadukkumpiththam
muttenavae penpurushan koodivaazhvaal
muraiyaiyuda  nathupoaku muraiyaikkaelae”

(Agathiyar)

The women for whom the bad spirit conquered will behave like a man. If a bad spirit has conquered a man, then it will induce him sexual desires and will make him lose his senses. And for pregnant woman it shall cause to the death of the baby in the womb and result in chill fevers and shivering. It will not let the man and woman to live together. The way of driving away these bad spirits has been told by Agathiyar in the following song.

"கேளடா பிசாசினது பலத்தைப் பார்த்துக்
kaeladaa pisaasinathu palaththaip paarththuk
kilarpanjaa ksharaththinathu kirupainoakki
aaladaa kozazhipanri yaadukaavu
aaeariom uruvain noorupoadu
thaaladaa kaareeyam sembuthangam
thagadezhuthi yidaikkazhuththil sirasilkatta
paazhadaa alakaiyenra paeikalellaam
parakkumadaa piramataatsa sumbaarae"

Take a sheet made out of copper or black lead or gold and write the panchaatchara mantra on it. Along with it also write the following beejaatchara mantra “ah, e, ari, om”. Then meditate on Parameshwara and chant the panchatchara mantra for 500 times. Then tie the sheet to the hip or head or neck to get relieved from all those bad spirits says Agathiyar.

Isn’t it a simple trick? If anybody needs to get benefitted out of it, they can pray to the guru and attempt to do it.

In the next post we shall see a trick that helps in attaining a kid.
