Machcha Muni was the disciple of Kaaka Pusandar. When Lord Siva preached about  the Kaala Gnanam (Wisdom of Time) to Goddess Parvathi, she slept in the middle. But a fish had heard that preaching from the beginning to the end. To gain the wisdom fully, that fish was said to be born in the Earth as Machcha Muni.

“சித்தான சித்து முனி மச்சனப்பா

siththaana siththu muni machchanappa

சீருலகில் நெடுங்காலம் மிகுந்த சித்து

seerulagil nedungaalam miguntha siththu

சத்தான திரேகமதை நம்பாமல் தான்

saththaana thiregamathai nambaamal thaan

தாரனியிலிருந்த தொரு தனத்தை எல்லாம்

thaaranaiyiliruntha thoru thanaththai ellaam

நித்தியமும் அகதிகட்கு அன்னந் தந்து

niththiyamum agathikatku annan thanthu

நிட்களங்க நிடேத வழி தெரிந்துமே தான்

nitkalanga nidetha vazhi therinthumae thaan

பக்தியுடன் னம்பாளின் தரிசனாத்தால்

bakthiyudan nambaalin tharisanathaal

பாருலகை மறந்ததொரு சித்தனாமே

paarulagai maranthathoru siththanaamae.”

Machcha Muni soothiram 21, Machcha Muni thoola sookkuma kaarana gnanam 30, Machcha Muni peru nool kaaviyam 800, Machcha Muni vaithiyam 800, Machcha Muni kadai kaandaam 800, Machcha Muni sarakku vaippu 800, Machcha Muni thiravagam 800, Machcha Muni gnana theetchai 50, Machcha Muni thandagam 100, Machcha Muni theetcha vithi 100, Machcha Muni muppu theetchai 80, Machcha Muni kuru nool 800, Machcha Muni gnanam 800, Machcha Muni vedhantham 800, Machcha Muni thirumanthiram 800, Machcha Muni yogam 800, Machcha Muni vagaaram 800, Machcha Muni nigandu 400, Machcha Muni kalai gnanam 800 were books said to be written by him. It was also said that the book ' Mayajala Kaandam’, which is about the magics, was also written by him.

There is contradicting information about the Samadhi* of him. One information says that is sepulcher is at Thiruparangunram, the other says that his sepulcher is at Thiruvaanaikaa.
