The Siththars are the ones who made us realize that this world and our human body is composed of the panjappootham*. They have told it in another form also as "the one in the world is only present in our body also".
A portion of human body is composed of a mixture of panjapoothas. These cannot be separated from the human body. The Siththars says that the yogic state could be attained only if their percentage levels are maintained constant. The percentage changes that occurs in those levels only causes the changes in human body and causes diseases.
The technique told by the Siththars to maintain these levels in the same percentages is the mudras. They have categorized them into two types, one is "Yoga mudras" and the other is "Thega mudras". In this post we shall see about the yoga mudra.
Danvanthiri in his book "Danvanthiri Vaithiyam 1000" has wrote about yoga mudra in the following way.
"சுத்தமுள்ள முத்திரைகள் தன்னிலேதான்
suththamulla muththiraikal thannilaethaan
sugamaana aaruvagai muththiraikal nanru
pakthiyudan aaruvagai muththiraiyinaalae
paguththarinthu aathaara therisanaikal petru
viththaana piravithanai nanraai neekki
vedantha pooranamaai vilangu mukthi"
1000 (Danvanthiri vaithiyam 1000)
Though there are many categories of yoga mudra, there are six important ones and those who do these six mudras without fail will be relieved from the sorrow of birth and will attain mukthi state says Danvanthiri.
These yoga mudras has to be done in a particular sequence only in the brahma muhurtham, and each mudra has to be done for seven minutes ie., all the six mudras should be done in forty two minutes. He also says that while doing these mudras the fingers are most important.
We shall see the importance of the fingers and the techniques in doing the mudras in the next post.
