Though there are many books about the samudrika lakshanam in Sanskrit and Telugu, the books written by the Siththars are the ancient ones. I have found the books about the samudrika lakshanam in other languages also.
But in Tamil I did not find any books. The information about the samudrika lakshanam has been spread in the songs of the Siththars. All the information that I share in these posts are taken from the books of Agathiyar, Bogar and Theraiyar. The names of those books are
Agathiyar’s “Agathiyar yaema thaththuvam”
Agathiyar’s “Agathiyar 12000”
Bogar’s “Bogar 12000”
Theraiyar’s “Theraiyar nayanavidhi”
The samudrika lakshanam has been categorized for men and women. In both the genders there are various kinds of people and they have listed out the characteristics of each parts of the body. First let us see about men. Agathiyar has categorized men in the following way:
"சித்தியென்ற ஆண்சாதி நாலுண்டுகேளு
siththiyenra aansaathi naalundukaelu
செப்புகிறேன் பாலகா புலத்தியனேகேள்
seppukiraen paalagaa Pulaththiyanaekae
வித்தியென்னும் விதவஸ்தசுபசாதி யென்றுபேரு
viththiyennum vithavasthasubasaadhi yenrupaeru
விவேகமுள்ள பயிரபதி சாதியென்றும்பேரு
vivaegamulla payirapathi saadhiyenrumpaeru
சுத்தியெனும் சாமசாதி யென்றும்பேரு
suththiyenum saamasaadhi yenrum paeru
சைதன்ய பிரகாசாதி யென்றும்பேரு
saithanya piragaasaadhi yenrumpaeru
முத்தியெனு ஆண்சாதி நான்கின்பேர்கள்
muththiyenu aansaadhi naankinpaerkal
முக்கியமாய்ச் சொல்லிவிட்டோம் ஆண்சாதிநாலே
mukkiyamaaich sollivittoam aansaadhinaalae"

Agathiyar says to his student Pulathiyar that men are of four kind and they are,
Vithavasthasupasaadhi
Payirabathi saadhi
Saamasaadhi
Piragaasaadhi
