In previous post, we have seen the questions raised by Siththar Agathiyar regarding the pooja rituals which are commonly performed for erasing karma’s of ancestors during new moon day. Agathiyar decline all the above said rituals. Moreover, he says that only yogi has ability to clear one’s karma and further, he strictly put forth that there is no chance of clearing karma’s by anyone (except yogi) or by any rituals.

Then, what do we have to do on new moon day. Agathiyar paves the way as follows.

சிக்காமல் சொல்லுகிறேன் புலத்தியனே கேளு

sikkaamal sollukiraen Pulaththiyanae kaelu

தேசத்தோ டொத்துணியாய் வாழாதப்பா

thaesaththoa doththuniyaai vaazhaathappaa

சொக்காதே யிருந்தல்லோ சாக்கிரத்திற்

sokkaatheae yirunthalloa saakkiraththir

சுருதியந்த ஆக்கினையி லகாரந்தொட்டு

suruthiyantha aakkinaiyi lakaaranthottu

மக்காத கீழ்படியில் மகாரந்தொட்டு

makkaatha keezhpadiyil makaaranthottu

வாசமா மிடகலையில் வகாரந்தொட்டு

vaasamaa midakalaiyil vakaarnththottu

புக்காதே பின்கலையிற் சிகரந்தொட்டு

பூட்டப்பா ரிதுவல்லோ அமாவாசையெண்ணே

பிதிர்சூட்சம் மாதாவின் சூட்சஞ்சொன்னேன்

பிதற்றாதே யெழுகோடி பிதிர்க்குமுத்தி

மதிகெட்ட மாணாக்கள் தோற்றமெழில்

mathiketta maanaakkal thotramezhil

வங்கிஷமு முத்திபெறு மாதாந்தத்தே

vangishamu muththiperu maathaanthaththae.

Agathiyar says, one should not perform above said rituals on full moon day and new moon day. He advises, ‘do not follow the fellow people who were performing these rituals. Besides, start practicing by keeping lakaram at ajna and in next stage, position your mind as makaraam. Make idangala as vakaaram and feel pingqlai as sikaaram and finally practice siva yoga by chanting the mantra “NAMA VASI”.

Agathiyar says, one should perform this Siva yoga during full moon and new moon day of every month. While practicing one can view of radiance of sun and moon on the centre of eye brow and this is the way to attain mukthi.

This is referred as “pithir sootchamam” and “maathaa sootchamam”. Agathiyar advises his student Pulathiyar to understand this and follow this procedure.

In Hindu culture, amavaasai (new moon day) is believed as most significant day. On that day, sesame and are given as tharppanam* to ancestors. Even some may remind story of ‘Abirami pattar’. In panchaangam, amavaasai is considered to be most important thithi, which we have already discussed in the post, Naga Panchami.

Almost everyone knows the scientifical explanation behind the new moon day.  Due to increased gravitational forces on that day, we can see the incraesed upright waves on ocean. Similarly, changes in human body are due to same reason. But this post is not on this part. Let us  see the explanation behind new moon day in Agathiyar’s words.

பிறக்கமது வன்றியே யெழுதோற்றத்துள்ளும்

pirakkamathu vanriyae yezhuthoatraththullum

பேராக நாலுவகை யோனிக்குள்ளும்

paeraaka naaluvakai yoanikkullum

பிறக்குமது பொறிஐந்தால் கோடாகோடி

According to Agathiyar, those who perform fasting on amavaasai for giving thithi to their late parents, giving food to brahmins and roaming from temple to temple for performing pooja using water and seasame are thoughtless peoples.

Some people say that, this ritual performed on amavaasai will clear karma of late ancestors.

Agathigar also raises following question on people who perforimg these above said rituals.

What is the need to give pindam* to the dead and burned body?

What do you think while giving tharppanam to body which is ash burnt?

Where will the pouring water and seasame will reach?

Even before several hundred years itself, Agathiyar raised his queries, which are nowadays asked by rational people and atheist who do not believe in god.

Then! How to settle karma’s of ancestors?

What else to be done at new moon day?

அஞ்சாதே கேளமப்பா ஆரூடத்தை

அனுதினமும் தோத்தரிப்பாய் நவக்கிரகத்தை

anuthinamum thoaththarippaai navakkirakaththai

சஞ்சலங்கள் விலகுமப்பா தனமேசேரும்

sanjalangal vilakumappaa thanamaesaerum

தட்டாது உன்வார்த்தை மேன்மையாகும்

thattaathu unvaarththai maenmaiyyagum

கொஞ்சநாள் இதுவரையில் கஷ்டப்பட்டாய்

கோபத்தால் பலபொருளும் நஷ்டப்பட்டாய்

The outcome 59 shows your past sufferings and loss. Due to your anger, you lost many things. Betrayers betrayed you and gives you pain. Do not worry. Good things will happen if you worship Navagraha’s (nine planets) and gives you good fortune. Agathiyar says, good things will happen after this week which will favour you.

௬o. (60) வந்தால்.. (if 60 comes..)

வருத்தமே யுந்தனுக்கு அதிகமாகும்

varuththamae yunthanukku athikamaakum

வையகத்தில் நினைப்பதெல்லாம் அபலமாகும்

vaiyakaththil ninaippathellaam apalamaagum

பொருத்தமுடன் செய்தொழிலில் நஷ்டமாகும்

poruththamudan seythozhilil nashtamaakum

புவிதனிலே மனைவிமக்கள் பகையதாகும்

puvithanilae manaivimakkal pakaiyathaakum

கன்னியால் மனைதனிலே கலகமாகும்

kanniyaal manaithanilae kalakamaakum

கச்சிதமாய் வைத்தபொருள் களவுபோகும்

kachithamaai vaiththaporul kalavupoakum

தரித்திரமே மேலோங்கும் சினேகம் நீங்கும்

thariththiramae maeloangum sinaekam neengum

தணியுமப்பா நாளுக்குநாள் தான்பாரே

The outcome 60 in the aaroodam indicates that mental sufferings will increase. Loss in the business is seen. Even your wife and children shows you enemity. Quarrels arise in your home due to one girl. Theft will happen in your home. You may lose good people’s friendship. Agathiyar says, all these problems will eventually fades and become no more.

௬௧. (61) வந்தால்.. (if 61 comes..)

யோகதிசை உந்தனக்கு வந்ததாலே

yoakathisai unthanukku vanththaalae 

ஒன்பதிலே குருபகவான் பார்வையாச்சு

onpathilae kurupakavaan paarvaiyaachu

தோகையரால் லாபமண்டு துயரம் பொச்சு

thoakaiyaraal laapamundu thuyaram poachu

துரைத்தனத்தி லுந்தனக்கு தொழிலுண்டாச்சு

thuraiththanaththi lunthanuku thozilundaachu

பாகமாய் வந்தபிணி பதங்கலாச்சு

paakamaai vanthapini pathangalaachu

பலவூர்கள் செய்தியதால் பாக்கியமாச்சு

palavoorkal seiythiyathaal paakkiyamaachu

ஆகமத்தின் மொழியிதுதான் உண்மையாச்சு

aakamaththin mozhiyithuthaan unmaiyaachu

அறிவித்தேன் அருள்வாக்கை அறிகுவாயே

The outcome 61 indicates the vision of Jupiter on the ninth position and the fortunate period. You will get benefits from girls. Worries will disappear. You will get the job in very prestigious place. All your diseases will be cured. You will receive happy information from all sides. This foretelling is very true. Agathiyar says that this is foretold with God’s grace.

௬௨. (62) வந்தால்.. (if 62 comes..)

பனிரெண்டில் சூரியனும் உதித்ததாலே

panirendil sooriyanum uthiththathaalae

பலபேர்களா லுனக்கு உதவியுண்டு

palapaerkalaa lunakku uthaviyundu

பணியணிகள் சேருமப்பா பலத்தலாபம்

paniyanikal saerumappa palaththalaabam

பாவையர்க்கு கோபமதில் பாலனாகும்

paavaiyarkku koabamathil paalanaakum

துணிந்து நீ எத்தொழில் செய்தபோதும்

thuninthu nee eththozhil seithapoathum

தொல்லையின்றி விர்த்திகர மாகுமப்பா

thollaiyinri virththikara maakumappaa

தணியுமப்பா உந்தனுடகஷ்ட மல்லாம்

thaniyumappa unthanudakashta mallaam

தட்டாமல் ஒன்பதுநாள் கழிந்திடவே

thattaamal onpathunaal kazhinthidavae.

The outcome 62 indicates the position of Sun on twelfth place. Many people will help you. You will good job and accumulate with dress and jewels. Many benefits will be seen. Your wife will be conceived with boy baby. Whatever be the business there will not be hurdles and you will get profit. Agathiyar blesses you that, all your sorrows will leave you in nine days.

௬௩. (63) வந்தால்.. (if 63 comes..)

பொல்லாத சனி ராகு பகையினாலே

pollaatha sani raagu pakaiyinaalae

போகுமொரு காரியங்கள் தடங்கலாகும்

poakumoru kaariyangal thadangalaakum

நில்லாது பலவிதமாய் அலையச்செய்யும்

nillaathu palavithamaai alaiyacheyyum

நிஷ்டூரம் சினேகதிரால் கவலையாகும்

nishtooram sinaekitharaal kavalaiyaagum

நல்லதைச் சொன்னாலம் பொல்லாப்பாகும்

nallathaich sonnaalum pollaappaakum

நஷ்டமப்பா தொழில் முதறைநான் விந்தையுண்டு

nashtamappaa thozhil mutharainaan vinthaiyundu

சொல்லவே நாற்பத்தி மூன்று நாளில்

sollavae naarpaththi moonru naalil

சுகமுண்டு பருதிகண்ட பனிபோலே

sukamundu paruthikanda panipoalae.

The outcome 63 indicates the enemity of planets Saturn and Raagu*. Hurldles are seen in all your activities. Lots of travels will be there. You will suffer because of your friends. Only bad thing will happen even if you say and do good things. Loss in business will also occur. Agathiyar says, all your pain will vanish in 43 days like snow melts in presence of Sun.

௬௪. (64) வந்தால்.. (if 64 comes..)

அகஸ்தியானர் கூறியதோர் வாக்கியத்தை

akasthiyaanar kooriyathoar vaakkiyaththai

யாருமே நம்பிமோசம் போனதில்லை

yaarumae nambimoasam poanathillai

சுகத்தைத்தரும் குடும்பத்தின் கஷ்டந்தீரும்

sukaththaitharum kudumpaththin kashtantheerum

சுபக்கிரக பார்வையினால் லாபமுண்டாம்

subakkiraka paarvaiyinaal laapamundaam

மகப்பெறும் சுகவாழ்வும் பகையம் நீங்கும்

makapaerum sukavaazhvum pakaiyum neengum

மண்ணதனை எடுத்தாலும் பொன்னதாகும்

mannathanai eduththaalum ponnathaakum

ஜெகந்தன்னிலே எதிரியின்றி செழித்து வாழ்வாய்

jekanthannilae ethiriyinri sezhiththu vaazhvaai

தியாகராஜன் குகனருளால் செப்பினேனே

thiyaakaraajan kukanarulaal seppinaenae

The outcome 64 indicates the facing of good planet which eliminates the sorrows in home. You will be blessed with baby and may expect happy life. Those who showed enemity will now become friendly. All you do will give profits in this period and there are no more enemies hereafter. Agathiyar says, no one get disappointed by hearing this foretelling because, this is told with the gracious blessings from Lord Shiva and Lord Muruga.
