Once Karuvoorar, also called as Karuvoor Devar, had went to Nelveli (Thirunelveli). Since he wished to see Nelliyappar, he went to the temple. He called the God as, “Nellaiyappa” for three times. Since that was the time for nivethanam*, Karuvoorar didn’t get any reply from the other side. Karuvoorar smiled, “Aah.. it seems Nellaiyappan is not here?”. As he smiled, madar plants and unwanted plants started to grow around the temple.

Without wasting a second, Karuvoorar left the temple. Lord Siva (Nelliyappar) was quivered by Karuvoorar’s anger. When Karuvoorar reached Manoor, Lord Siva obstructed him. He said, in a convincing tone, “Son, being so angry like this, is not good. When you visited me, it was Nivethanam time. Though I heard you, I was not able to reply you”. He called Karuvoorar pleasantly, “Ok. Let it be. Come to Thirunelveli”.

Appeased Karuvoorar, walked towards Thirunelveli. Lord Siva offered him a golden coin for Karuvoorar’s each step towards Thirunelveli.
